Introduction
 
Archbishop Thomas J. Murphy High School is a co-educational Catholic college-preparatory school located in Everett, Washington. Founded as Holy Cross High School in 1988, Archbishop Murphy High School serves students grades nine through twelve and enrollment has increased from 23 students in 1988 to approximately 600 for Fall 2008. Here at Archbishop Murphy High School we take seriously our mission of inspiring and developing Christian leaders through five basic themes:
 
  • Developing spirituality in the Catholic tradition

  • Providing challenging college preparatory academic experiences and enriching extracurricular programs

  • Respecting the dignity of each individual

  • Fostering commitment to community service

  • Supporting families as the primary educators in the character formation of their children

Academic Excellence - Class of 2008 Highlights

  • 77% of our seniors were offered more than $8.7 million in scholarships or grants.

  • The class achieved an average SAT score of 1145 (includes Verbal and Math scores only).

  • 73% of students taking AP exams earned a 3.0 or better on an exam, earning college credit.

  • There was one National Merit Finalist and five National Merit Commended students.

  • 14 students were invited to compete in the Washington State Mathematics Competition. Our team competed in Division I, and placed 3rd in the Team Problem.

  • The Mock Trial team won the District Championship, and qualified two teams to state. Ten seniors were invited to the American Mock Trial Invitational (AMTI), held in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Requirements for Graduation

Academic Information

The course of study at Archbishop Murphy High School (AMHS) is designed to prepare students to enter a college or university. Within this college preparatory framework, we seek to direct students to courses that will consistently challenge their capacity and potential. Every student at AMHS is given ample opportunity to meet and explore challenges of the learning process.
 

Credits and Grading

A total of 24 credits are required to graduate from Archbishop Murphy High School. Students take six classes each semester. Class periods are 50-55 minutes in length. Academic credits are assigned each semester for each course in which a passing grade is earned. A passing grade in a yearlong course earns one credit, while passing a semester long course generates one-half credit.

The courses required for graduation from AMHS meet or exceed the minimum entry requirements of colleges and universities in the state.
