Math Team 2010
The AMHS math team competed at the WSMC state competition this April and
placed for the 8th straight year. This is the first year AMHS brought home
plaques in 3 events (out of 4). We placed 2nd in both the Team Project and
the Team Problem. We had two teams tie for 3rd in Team Topicals.
The AMHS project team consisted of Marie, Megan, Tauras, Adam, Annie, and
Robert. This year’s state project involved a statistical analysis of zip
code data looking for a relationship between quality of life and population
density. The project group consulted with AMHS teachers Ms. Callaghan about
budgets/livability, Mr. Alkire about programming, and Ms. Comunale about
statistical analysis. Mr. Wright proofed the report. The Team Project was a
student-led effort with contributions from many helping faculty.
AMHS competes in Division 1 with 2A-4A schools. The team of Tauras, Amy, and
Annie placed second in the Team Problem with a score of 29 points, only one
point behind a team from Kentridge HS (4A). The team of Clint, Brandon, and
Max scored 130 points in the Topicals competition. So did the team of Tauras,
Amy, and Annie. Only two teams scored more: Henry Foss HS (4A -- 132 points)
and Skyview HS (4A -- 131 points).
