Dear Families and Friends of AMHS,
As has been the tradition at Archbishop Murphy High School, our students and
families responded to people in need by setting an exceptionally high goal
for our 2010 Rice Bowl fund raiser. Because the amount was high, we let our
students know that they would earn a day off if they raised the necessary
funds. In light of the tragedies in both Chile and Haiti, our students
committed to raising an amount that would not only honor our seniors, but
provide funds necessary to truly make a difference to those in need.
It is with great pride and joy that we officially announce the grand total
that will be donated to the CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICES 2010 OPERATION RICE
BOWL. A wide variety of fund raising activities throughout Lent
emphasized spirit and solidarity in an effort to bring relief to people in
Haiti and Chile. As a result of incredible generosity and sacrifice, we
exceeded our goal of $20,010 and will donate
$24,708 to Catholic Relief Services.
In celebration and special recognition of this gift to our brothers and
sisters throughout the world, we will have a Rice Bowl School Holiday on
Friday, May 14th. It will be a day to thank God for all the many
blessings that have been bestowed upon our community here at Archbishop
Murphy High School. We continue to set an example of spirit and charitable
giving to OPERATION RICE BOWL and the world!
Gratefully,
Margaret Ames and the Class of 2010

Could you survive on a
single bowl of rice everyday for the rest of your life? For many people
across the world, that bowl is empty. It is our mission to give them a hand
up, and to help fill the bowl.
Operation Rice Bowl is the
official Lenten program of Catholic Relief Services. Operation Rice Bowl
calls participants to pray with their families and faith communities; fast
in solidarity with those who hunger; learn about our global community and
the challenges of poverty overseas, and give sacrificial contributions to
those in need.
Operation Rice Bowl
offers Catholics in the United States a way to connect with our brothers and
sisters overseas. We believe that through solidarity the world can be
transformed. |
